Job opportunities in the medical field continually change with varying advances of careers in medicine, the increase of specialist careers, and complex insurance regulations. This course provides the integrated application of office procedures skills and knowledge in the classroom through the use of simulation.
Students will learn to perform the duties of the
Medical Administrative Specialist under realistic conditions and with realistic pressures that require them to organize the work and set priorities. Students will develop skills in communications, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software applications. Through the use of accounting software and QuickBooks, students will perform accounting functions necessary for administrative financial responsibilities. Students will use comprehensive knowledge in medical terminology to produce and transcribe medical correspondence, reports, and forms; to code diagnostic statements and medical/surgical procedures; and to process CMS-1500 health insurance forms. In addition, students will research job prospects, prepare job-seeking documents, and create a high-quality employment portfolio. Internship and co-operative based education opportunities are also provided.
This program also prepares students for Microsoft Word and Excel certification.
Community College Articulations
Completion of this course allows articulation to any community college in Florida equal to up to 21 credit hours
towards an Associates Degree in Office Administration. (With Industry Certification/Portfolio).
